About us and our club
Welcome Page - Us and our club
Ryton Camera Club is based in the Ryton village, 6 miles west of Gateshead. We are a friendly group, with a range of experience, who enjoy all aspects of photography. We welcome new members of all abilities, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete novice.
Our club nights offer a varied schedule of activities. Some weeks are dedicated to honing your practical skills on camera technique, or using post-production packages such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to help you get the best out of your images.
Other weeks we have presentations by external guest speakers or our own members who pass on their knowledge, experience and passion for photography to inspire you to improve your skills and take on different subjects. These talks cover a wide range of photographic genres and techniques – for more details see the programme here.
We run club competitions on a regular basis. They provide a good opportunity for members to have their images critiqued by trained judges. This is a good way to learn how to improve your photography skills, but you are under no obligation to enter. The club also enters inter-club competitions. In recent years we have won both the South Tyne Area PDI (Projected Digital Images) and Print competitions. As the club is affiliated to the NCPF (Northern Counties Photographic Federation), we also compete with other clubs from across the whole of Northern England. Most years some of our members’ images receive NCPF awards, or are included in the NCPF portfolio; some are chosen as part of
the NCPF entry to national (Photographic Association of Great Britain) competitions.
From September until May we meet at 7.15 p.m. in Ryton Community Centre. Meetings generally finish, after a cup of tea or coffee, by 9 - 9.30 p.m.; some members then go to the pub next door for a friendly drink. During the summer season we meet informally for photography outings on Tuesday evenings, or occasionally for half- or full-day visits to more distant locations. On wet Tuesday evenings we may meet at the Community Centre for Photoshop or Lightroom tutorials, etc.
Club membership currently costs £40 per year (payable, if you wish, in two instalments), but please feel free to drop in to a few meetings without paying to see if the club suits your needs.
If you think Ryton might be the club for you, then come along on any Tuesday night.
Alternatively, drop us a line on the contact form for more info.
